Le jeudi 7 février 2019, deux classes de secondes, la 2D2 et la 2D10 ont eu la chance d’assister à une représentation théâtrale entièrement en anglais au Sébastopol, à Lille. Il s’agit de « PRISONNER 46664 : NELSON MANDELA » qui raconte la vie de Nelson Mandela de ses débuts à l’école jusqu’à son élection présidentielle.

A travers la pièce, on découvre un homme qui n’a jamais perdu espoir pour son pays, qui a toujours cru en la fin de l’Apartheid de façon pacifique mais qui a terriblement souffert aux mains de l’état Sud-africain. Dans cette œuvre, on s’aperçoit aussi que Nelson Mandela a été privé de sa famille et de ses amis pendant près de 25 ans. Malgré ça, ils n’ont jamais cessé de croire en lui et de toujours l’encourager.

La pièce reprend quelques moments cultes de sa vie comme lorsqu’il était petit et que sa maîtresse lui a donné le nom de Nelson, qui faisait plus britannique selon elle. De ses nombreux procès jusqu’à son arrestation et sa vie en prison. De sa libération et de sa rupture avec sa femme Winnie. Sans oublier son élection présidentielle en 1994 à sa mort en 2013. Les décors étaient très simples comme par exemple un banc ou des chaises. Mais au milieu de la scène se trouvait un grand écran qui affichait des informations supplémentaires ou des fonds qui permettaient d’illustrer et de mieux comprendre  la pièce.

Sur scène, on comptait cinq comédiens : Heza Botto, qui jouait Nelson Mandela, né au Cameroun. Béni Bliss dans le rôle de Walter Sisulu, né au Congo. Chengetai qui jouait Winnie, l’épouse de Nelson Mandela, qui est née et a grandi au Zimbabwe. Stephen Shagov, né en Nouvelle- Zélande, et Romain Rouveyrollis, français, qui tenaient plusieurs rôles.

Je recommande cette pièce. Elle permet aux élèves de pouvoir mettre des images sur la vie de Nelson Mandela et d’une certaine manière, de pouvoir mieux l’analyser. Pour ma part, elle m’a apporté une autre vision de celle que j’avais pu me faire. Grâce à elle, j’ai mieux compris ses choix et ses motivations qui l’ont poussé à ne jamais perdre espoir et abandonner ses combats.

PRISONNER 46664 : NELSON MANDELA

On Thursday, February 7th  2019, two classes of « seconde », 2D2 and 2D10, had the opportunity to attend a theatrical performance entirely in English at Sebastopol theatre, in Lille. It is « PRISONNER 46664 : NELSON MANDELA » which tells the life of Nelson Mandela from his beginnings at school until his presidential election.

In the play, we discovered a man who has never lost hope for his country, who has always believed in the peaceful end of Apartheid but suffered terribly at the hands of the South African state. In this play, we also saw that Nelson Mandela has been deprived of his family and friends for nearly twenty-five years. Despite that, they never stopped believing in him and always encouraged him.

The play takes up some of the cult moments of his life : when he was little and when his schoolmistress gave him the first name « Nelson » (which was « more British », according to her), his many trials, his arrest and his life in prison, his release and his breakup with his wife Winnie. Not to mention his presidential election in 1994 and his death in 2013. The props were very simple, such as a benches or chairs. But in the middle of the stage was a large screen that displayed additional information or backgrounds that could better illustrate the play and help us understand it.

On stage, there were five actors : Heza Botto, who played Nelson Mandela, born in Cameroon. Beni Bliss as Walter Sisulu, born in Congo. Chengetai who played Winnie, Nelson Mandela’s wife , born and raised in Zimbabwe. Stephen Shagov, born in New Zealand, and Romain Rouveyrollis, French, who held several roles.

I recommend this play. It allows students to picture Nelson Mandela’s life and, in a way, to better analyze it. In my opinion, it gave me another vision of Mandela’s life. Thanks to the play, I better understood his choices and motivations that led him to never give up hope and give up his fights.
